Historic centre : Epinal invites  you to come and visit the Saint Maurice basilica, the square ‘’place des Vosges ’’, remains of walls, the town’s fortifications, the canonical area and the tower-museum of the chapter in which a beautiful model representing the town in the Middle Age can be seen.

Departmental museum of ancient and contemporary art

-A bright modern building offering  to its visitors two masterpieces from the European painting of the 17^th century : Le job raillé par sa femme from Georges de la Tour and  la mater Dolorosa from Rembrant and also many works from the best  painters of the 17^th and 18^th centuries. The second floor presents the main trends of the contemporary art in Europe and in the . The Museum has also got archeological collections a thousand year of human presence in the Vosges .

The Image City

True dedication site of the distinctive prints tradition with the Image museum and the Imagerie of Epinal, located near by the Marina .

The Imagerie of Epinal : Established in 1796, the Imagerie of Epinal, ex- Imagerie Pellerin, is today the last traditional coloured print trade still operating. Hundred-year-old machines, engraving, printing and engraving techniques are revealed to the public through the Eco-Museum visits.  It’s then possible to by the popular Images of Epinal which made the town so famous in the world.

The fort in Uxegney (7 kilometres from Epinal)

Erected between 1882 and 1884 and modernized before 1914 this significant Military work of the fortified town of Epinal survived World War I and World War II without being damage. It remains one of the rarest example of fort ’’sérés de France’’. Underground rooms contains lots of restored elements like electric plants, kitchens, barrack rooms, pieces of artillery and also the unique sample of a turret with eclipse Galopin 155mm, registered in the additional inventory of the historic monuments.

The Eco-museum of the brewery in Ville-sur-Illon (20 kilometres from Epinal)

In this authentic site, impressive by its setting, its art nouveau style and its esoticism, the history, the civilisation, the brewery techniques and the economy of the bier are being told.

Epinal, town of sports, has got around 16 000 members in about a hundred  Clubs and sport associations.  Many sport equipments of quality allow anyone, amateur as well as initiated to practice a sport of its choice. In a view of relaxation and well-being a few hours of different sport initiations with a qualified coach are proposed : Golf, canoe, go-karting and climbing 5according to the season and disponibilty).

SpinaParc

Come play the adventurers in an old quarry down below a pink sandstoned cliff with a variety of trees and a natural spring. Recreational sport trails are proposed under three themes : the adventure, the climbing and the contact with the nature. Ground initiation and courses (one for the 6 to 12 years old and one for the adults)with monkey’s bridges, Tarzan’s jump, via ferrata, accrobranches, Tyrolean… are proposed under  the watchfull eye of a sports teacher.

Cruise on the canal Canal des Vosges

Come aboard the Cadet Rousselle, a 60 seats river-boat, for a round-trip going down with the current on the canal des Vosges.The story of the river system and its works is being told while cruising and  a lock gate is passed on the way back. A little hungry ? For a nicer time breakfast and 4 o’clock snacks are offered. It’s possible to plan on taking on with you a catered meal… an original way to combine business and pleasure!

Cruises starts from the beginning of May until the end of September.

Planétarium of the Belle Etoile

• Unique in the area, the planetarium of the Belle Etoile, set with a 10 meters hemispherical screen and a 60 seats room is a real popularization tool of the astronomy. A slide show or a video adapted to the public (old, teenagers and young) is followed with a reading of the sky showing constellations, the movements and positions of the planetes. A guided tour of the permanent exhibition is completing the show.
